A quiet idea,
years in the making.

A Life in Hospitality
My understanding of human connection didn't start in tech; it started in high-stakes kitchens. After earning my culinary degree from the New England Culinary Institute, my world became defined by fire, focus, and hospitality. Back in 2012, I stood on the line with a brigade of over 44 chefs, every single one of us deeply wanting to be there. We worked grueling 16-hour days pushing for a Michelin star. The connection was visceral. We sweat through service together, went out dancing after our shifts, and were right back on the line together the next morning. That environment taught me the anatomy of true, unfiltered community.

The Paradox of Connection
That culinary foundation made the modern world feel incredibly jarring to me. Today, we have the tools to be more connected than ever before, yet somehow, we never actually see our friends. A few years ago, I went through the most isolating period of my life. I realized that the technology designed to keep us close was quietly making us withdraw from each other. I wanted the warmth, presence, and reality I knew from my hospitality days, but in a digital space. So, I started building àlex, not as a standard tech app, but as a quiet mental health project designed to help people manage their relationship with themselves, and get back into real spaces with their closest friends.

Scouting the Sanctuary
Building the Concierge Hub for the app meant stepping away from the screen and back onto the streets of London. I spent months quietly scouting the city, looking for independent coffee kiosks, canal-side restaurants, hidden galleries, and sensory wellness spaces. I wasn't looking for the most viral spots; I was looking for spaces that felt like a breath out. Today, we are actively partnering with 50 of London's finest independent spaces to act as physical sanctuaries for our users.

The Launch
Today, àlex is no longer just a quiet idea. Backed by the NatWest Founders programme, our organic waitlist crossed 500 subscribers in less than a week and continues to grow daily. We are finalizing our Founding Partner cohort of London businesses, testing the final algorithms, and preparing to open the doors on the App Store at the end of June. We are finally bringing the sanctuary to life.
From a quiet beginning of 521 founding subscribers, the sanctuary grows by a handful each day, entirely through word of mouth.
